2. Brewing Tips for the Best Results

Coffee Grind Size

Grind size plays an important role in extraction.

A medium-coarse grind is recommended for Chemex brewing. Coffee that is too coarse will brew too quickly and may taste weak. Coffee that is too fine can clog the paper filter and slow the extraction.

Chemex Filter Paper

Chemex uses specially designed paper filters available in white and natural brown.

White filters are purified during manufacturing, while brown filters remain unbleached. Both produce clean coffee, but proper filter placement is important to ensure smooth water flow during brewing.

Coffee-to-Water Ratio

A common brewing ratio is 1:15, using 1 gram of coffee for every 15 ml of water.

Some coffee lovers prefer a stronger brew and use a 1:10 ratio. You can adjust the recipe to match your personal taste.

Water Temperature

The ideal brewing temperature is 90–96°C (194–205°F).

Water within this range extracts the coffee evenly while preserving its natural sweetness and aroma.

Pouring Technique

Begin by rinsing the paper filter with hot water. This removes any paper taste and preheats the brewer.

Add the ground coffee and gently pour a small amount of water to fully wet the grounds. Allow the coffee to bloom before continuing.

Pour the remaining water slowly in several stages instead of all at once. Controlled pouring helps achieve even extraction and a balanced flavor.

Why Choose a Chemex?

The Chemex is an excellent choice for coffee lovers who appreciate clarity, balance, and elegance. Its thick paper filter removes excess oils and fine particles, producing a smooth, clean cup with bright flavors.

Simple to use and beautiful to display, the Chemex combines modern design with exceptional brewing quality. It is a favorite among specialty coffee enthusiasts who value both aesthetics and taste.
